Company - The Starfire Advantage
Starfire® Systems offers your business breakthrough enabling technology.
Starfire creates systems solutions by combining our polymer technology and materials science to meet the design engineer's needs:
- Core competence in the synthesis and production of novel polycarbosilanes gives us a wide range of pre-ceramic polymers with different characteristics for customized engineered solutions.
- We design systems solutions, using well established polymer processing methods that eliminate traditional design and cost barriers in the fabrication process.
Starfire's materials solutions enable easier, safer, faster and more cost-effective production of a broader range of high-purity advanced SiC ceramic materials.
Beyond Convention
Starfire's highly versatile SiC pre-ceramic polymers allow for the fabrication of a virtually endless range of near-net shape particulate containing ceramics and fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composites with demonstrated cost/performance improvements over conventional processes.
- Our enabling technology offers alternatives to or at the very least can enhance existing processes such as Melt Infiltration, Sintering, and conventional Chemical Vapor Deposition or Infiltration (CVD/CVI), eliminating many of the drawback and hidden costs associated with them.
- Although conventional processes may employ inexpensive starting materials the total cost of ownership can be quite high when you compare all factors. Conventional Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) employs corrosive, toxic methyltrichlorosilane (MTS) posing hazards to personnel and the environment. Most processes are awkward, difficult to control, and require expensive equipment. Maintenance costs are high and yields are typically less than desirable. These hidden costs hurt your bottom line and impede your product development goals.
Starfire's breakthrough environmentally sound pre-ceramic polymers employ simplified, proven techniques that afford cost-effective processing. These unique polymers ensure higher quality ceramic materials with superior resistance to wear, corrosion, and high temperatures, thus opening the way to wider applications in electronics, energy efficiency, pollution control, communications, transportation, aerospace, and many other industries so vital to meeting 21st century needs.
