Starfire Systems, Inc (SSI) is a specialty material company focused on Polymer Derived Ceramics (PDC) and its Polymer-to-Ceramic TM technology. SSI’s core business is synthesis of silicon-based pre-ceramic polymers and SOL-GEL derived oxide forming materials which are used in polymer matrix composites, oxide and SIC based ceramic matrix composite (CMC) fabrication. SSI’s high temperature materials are useful in a variety of applications where durable, lightweight and high temperature complex shaped CMC’s are required. In addition, SSI developed a broad range of specialty silane compounds which are used as CVD precursors in semiconductor dielectric coatings, matrix densification and high purity intermediates for synthesizing pharmaceuticals.

COMPANY HISTORY
Based in Glenville, New York, Starfire Systems was founded in 1988 as a company that provided a revolutionary technology to transform polymers into ceramics. In 1991 Starfire Systems had developed a core chemistry that yielded a silicon carbide forming polymer which was named SMP-10. As Starfire Systems grew, so did the product portfolio. The company became known as the leader in Polymer-to-Ceramic® technology. Starfire Systems contracted with Alliant Techsystems (ATK) for NASA in 2004, supplying the polymer material for NOAX™ (Non-Oxide Adhesive Experimental) that would fly on all subsequent Space Shuttle missions. As demand increased, Starfire Systems outgrew its manufacturing facility which led to opening a state-of-the-art facility in 2016. Today, Starfire Systems is the recognized market leader in Polymer-to-Ceramic® technology and for its specialty silane fine chemicals. Starfire Systems continues to work with industry leaders worldwide to produce products that leverage this transformative technology.
